Catch the Last Colors of Fall in Pickaway County
There’s still time to take the scenic route. Cooler days, colorful leaves and quieter trails make late fall a lovely time to explore Pickaway County, even as the season begins to wind down.
In its October 29, 2026 fall color update, the Ohio Department of Natural Resources reported peak color across much of Ohio, with some northern areas beginning to fade. Conditions change quickly this time of year, so consider this your invitation to head outdoors and enjoy the season while it lasts.
Here are three local places to start.
Take a Lakeside Walk at A.W. Marion State Park
Just outside Circleville, A.W. Marion State Park offers rolling woodlands and the quiet waters of Hargus Lake. Follow a stretch of the shoreline, pause to take in the reflections or bring along your camera for a relaxed afternoon outdoors.
As leaves fall, the landscape takes on a different character, opening views through the trees and giving familiar paths a fresh perspective.
Address: 7317 Warner-Huffer Road, Circleville, OH 43113.

Find Open Views at Deer Creek State Park
Surrounded by agricultural countryside, Deer Creek State Park brings together lake views, hiking trails and room to slow down. Make it a short outdoor break or give yourself an afternoon to explore.
The drive is part of the experience, too. Pickaway County’s fields, tree lines and small communities offer plenty to appreciate along the way. During harvest season, allow extra travel time and give farm equipment plenty of room on rural roads.
Address: 20635 State Park Road 20, Mount Sterling, OH 43143.

Pair Nature and History at Canal Park
For a walk close to Circleville, head to Canal Park. Located along the Scioto River, this Pickaway County Park District destination features walking paths, river views and remnants of the historic Ohio & Erie Canal.
Take your time along the trails and watch for birds overhead. It’s an easy starting point for an afternoon that combines fresh air with a little local history.

Make a Day of Exploring
After your walk, stop for a warm drink, find somewhere local for lunch or browse a few shops. Choose a community you haven’t explored recently and leave time for a stop along the way.
Before heading out, check park alerts and trail conditions, dress for changing temperatures and choose a route that fits your available daylight. Fall color varies by location and weather, but there’s plenty to enjoy beyond the brightest leaves.
