Our Standard
We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA. These guidelines explain how to make web content more accessible for people with disabilities and more usable for everyone.
What We’ve Done
We completed a full accessibility review of pickaway.com, which included:
- Adding descriptive alternative text to images across the site so screen readers can convey their content and purpose
- Correcting heading structure throughout the site for logical, navigable page organization
- Adding descriptive titles to embedded iframes (including our event calendar)
- Reviewing decorative images and marking them appropriately so they don’t create noise for screen reader users
- Fixing accessibility issues on our Event Calendar page, including a duplicate ID that could interfere with assistive technology
- Adding a visible keyboard focus indicator sitewide so keyboard users can always see where they are on the page
- Improving color contrast on key buttons and calls to action to meet WCAG contrast requirements
- Adding the OneTap accessibility widget, giving visitors additional tools to adjust the site to their needs
Ongoing Monitoring
New images uploaded to the site are checked weekly, and any missing alternative text is added promptly. We review this statement periodically and update it as we continue improving the site.
