Festivals in Pickaway County

Welcome to Pickaway County

Here in Pickaway County, we are proud and thankful for all the unique and interesting attractions that our region has to offer. Around the world, we are known as the home of the world-famous “Circleville Pumpkin Show” held annually the third week of October, but there’s much more!

Be sure to stop at the Pickaway County Welcome Center, conveniently located at the entrance to Historic Downtown Circleville. There, our helpful staff will help you discover and learn more about our lodging facilities, the variety of fine dining choices and the array of independently-owned retail establishments offering personal service and one-of-a-kind, high-quality merchandise. They will also point you to a number of new gift shops specializing in antiques, art and locally crafted items.

We have wonderful recreational facilities that feature walking/ biking trails, hunting, fishing and boating opportunities, including the new “Roundtown Trail” bike path that connects the YMCA, Circleville Schools and Ohio Christian University. We are fortunate to have two high quality State Parks in our county, as well as a number of fine golf courses from which to choose.

Plan to visit our interesting museums and historic sites. Mount Oval (built in 1832), located south of Circleville, is recognized for its unique architecture among early Ohio homes, and is now open for tours. It will remain a working farm and be used for agricultural education.

Pickaway County hosts a variety of festivals and special events every year. While visiting, enjoy our three beautiful outdoor murals, one in downtown Ashville and two in downtown Circleville.

The Ashville 4th of July Celebration has taken place since 1929 and the Ashville Community Men’s Club continues this tradition today. The Celebration is the major fundraiser that allows this non-profit to support so many of the local charities, provide scholarships, support various youth and athletic programs and other community events and projects.

Circleville Ohio Pumpkin Show

What began in 1903 as a venue for local farmers to showcase their produce has since become a world-renowned annual festival on the streets of downtown Circleville. The Circleville Pumpkin Show, touted as “The Greatest Free Show on Earth,” kicks off the third Wednesday of October each year with the Giant Pumpkin Weigh-In, where area pumpkin growers vie for the prize of Biggest Pumpkin. Opening day also features juniors and seniors from area high schools competing for the title of Miss Pumpkin Show, an event that draws thousands to the Main Street Stage to support their favorite candidate.
