OCU Diamond Anniversary Symposium on Faith and Works

Everyone is invited to this event on faith & works for our 75th Diamond Anniversary.

Dr. Ron Smith, President will be the moderator for this Symposium on Faith and Works with guest speakers and authors, Tom McCall, Caleb Friedeman, and Matt Friedeman, who wrote “The Doctrine of Good Works, Reclaiming a Neglected Protestant Teaching,” IVP.

This is one of the events in for our 75th Diamond Anniversary. Everybody is welcome to come and enjoy from these men of God which we hope will cause a stirring of spreading God’s word in the evangelical world.

Speaker Bios

Tom McCall

Dr. McCall is currently the Timothy C. and Julie M. Tennent Chair of Theology at Asbury Theological Seminary. He previously held appointment as Professor of Theology and Scholar-in-Residence at Asbury University. Prior to this, he served for sixteen years as Professor of Biblical and Systematic Theology at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School in Deerfield, Illinois, where he was also the Director of the Carl F. H. Henry Center for Theological Understanding. During this same time, he held an appointment as Professorial Fellow in Exegetical and Analytic Theology at the University of St. Andrews.

Matt Friedeman

Dr. Friedeman is the John M. Case Chair of Evangelical Studies of Wesley Biblical Seminary where he has served since 1987. He has authored books on evangelism, discipleship, and methods of Bible study. He has written a regular newspaper column and has been a talk-show host on American Family Radio. Dr. Friedeman regularly leads students in various types of outreach, such as prison ministry and ministry to the unborn. Matt is an ordained Nazarene minister who serves as the founding pastor of Day Spring Community Church in Clinton, Mississippi.

Caleb Friedeman

Dr. Caleb Friedeman is the David A. Case Chair of Biblical Studies at Ohio Christian University where he is an Associate Research Professor of New Testament. He is a pastor-theologian with a passion to teach, preach, write, and lead in service to the Church. He began to sense the Lord’s call on his life while teaching Greek and Hebrew during a summer internship in India and has never looked back. Caleb is an ordained elder in the Church of the Nazarene and has served as an associate pastor at Nazarene churches in Mississippi and Illinois.

Moderator Bio

Ron Smith

Through his many years of ministry, Dr. Ron Smith has served the Church as a youth, associate, and senior pastor, as well as church planter. He has served as president of The Francis Asbury Society for two separate terms, as well as filling various roles within the organization over a span of two decades. In 1998, he was elected as the fifth president of Wesley Biblical Seminary in Jackson, MS, where he served for thirteen years. In 2022 he was unanimously elected by the Ohio Christian University board of trustees to serve as the twelfth president of the University.
